INTRODUCTION OF THE POEM
The poet sensitizes the reader and highlights the fact that trees are living things. He equates trees with humans to convey that trees should not be cut because destroying trees is just like killing a human being. A tree does not die by merely cutting because it regrows from where it is cut. If it has to be destroyed, then it has to be uprooted.

DIRECT EXPERIENCE
Teacher takes the children to the shades of trees, and asks them to enjoy the nature. She points few trees and explains its advantages. And also shows one chopped tree. She tells the feelings of such trees.
She states that a simple jab of the knife cannot kill a tree. The reason is that the tree has grown slowly consuming the earth and absorbing years of sunlight, air and water. Moreover when it is hacked and chopped the bleeding bark heal itself . To kill a tree its root is to be pulled out from the Earth cave. This destruction passes through scorching, choking ,browning ,hardening, twisting and finally withering. Thus the poem describes the process of killing a tree.
